It was very refreshing to read Outdoor Editor Michael Babcock’s November 16 article, “Environment drowning in bottled water.” Babcock points out that Americans consume more bottled water than any other nation. This is quite ironic, considering that our domestic tap water is among the world’s cleanest.
Babcock also points out the substantial oil consumption required to make the bottles and the environmental harms that result from incinerating the bottles or disposing of them in landfills. What Babcock neglected to mention is that the transportation of the bottled water from producers to sellers consumes additional gasoline and results in still more air pollution.
