Heartland Institute Joins Coalition Challenging Pope Francis’s Views on Global Warming, Capitalism

Published September 14, 2015
In anticipation of Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia, the Independence Hall Foundation and The Heartland Institute will host a Constitution Day press conference challenging the pope’s views on global warming and the nature of capitalism.
Press conference participants will include, among others, the co-founder of the Independence Hall Foundation and two representatives of The Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based free-market think tank that organized a trip to Rome in April to inform Pope Francis on climate change issues.
In 2012, The Economist magazine called The Heartland Institute “the world’s most prominent think tank supporting skepticism about man-made climate change.” The pontiff is scheduled to be in Philadelphia September 26 and 27, 2015.
What:  Press conference to debunk common myths about the causes and consequences of global warming and discuss papal teaching on the climate and the nature of capitalism.
When: 12:30 pm, Thursday, September 17, 2015 (Constitution Day)
Where:  Ballroom of the Independence Visitors Center, 6th and Market Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Who: Dr. Jay Lehr, Ph.D., science director, The Heartland Institute; Gene Koprowski, marketing director, The Heartland Institute; Elizabeth Yore, J.D., former general counsel at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Virginia; Dom Giordano, radio host, WPHT-AM, Philadelphia; and Teri Adams, co-founder, Independence Hall Foundation.
Why: To bring awareness to the community-at-large, and Catholics in particular, that Pope Francis’s views on global warming are scientifically in error, and his views on capitalism are outdated and wrong.
This press conference will address Laudato Si, Pope Francis’s encyclical on the climate, and his planned address to Congress September 23, as well as his appearance in Philadelphia.
