Heartland Institute Senior Fellow Reacts to Passage of ‘Pre-K for SA’

Published November 7, 2012

Jeff Judson, a San Antonio resident and senior fellow at The Heartland Institute, was a leader of the opposition to the Pre-K proposition. He, along with The Heartland Institute, provided much of the research into the flaws in the proposal.

“The passage of the pre-K initiative is not a reflection of it being a well-crafted, research-based plan. There were many unanswered questions and a lack of enthusiasm among professional educators in our community. The mayor had a huge campaign budget combined with all the taxpayer-funded information brochures that listed all the benefits but none of the unanswered questions or problems with the design of the program. Opponents had word-of-mouth and little more.

“I encourage school districts, educators, and parents to hold the city accountable for fulfilling all the promises it made during this campaign. We will be watching.”
