Heartland Senior Fellow: Federal Wind Insurance Still a Terrible Idea

Published July 30, 2010

The national director of The Heartland Institute’s Center on Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate today harshly criticized reports that the House of Representatives would again consider Rep. Gene Taylor’s Multiple Peril Insurance Act (H.R. 1264).

“This was a bad bill when the House Democratic leadership pulled it from the floor last week and, if it comes up again, it will still be a bad idea,” said Eli Lehrer, the center’s director and a Heartland Institute senior fellow.

He continued, “House leadership would do well to follow the lead of the Obama administration, the National Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club, and Americans for Tax Reform and realize that the bill is a truly awful idea. It needs to die.”
