IPCC Doubles down on Bias, Incompetence

Climate Change Weekly #73

The United Nations is doubling down on ignorance and bias for its upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, according to investigative journalist Donna Laframboise.

Laframboise created a sensation in global warming circles last year when she documented rampant IPCC misbehavior in her book, The Delinquent Teenager Who Was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert. Laframboise showed IPCC officials appointed unqualified scientists and blatant global warming advocates as lead authors for its 2007 Fourth Assessment Report.

Earlier this month at the European Institute for Climate and Energy’s Fifth International Conference on Climate and Energy, co-sponsored by The Heartland Institute, Laframboise documented those IPCC outrages and reported IPCC is planning more of the same in its Fifth Assessment Report, scheduled for release in 2014.

Laframboise reported 130 “leading climate scientists” have now joined the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to work with the activist group, supplementing the 78 IPCC participants in the 2007 report. Laframboise also reported IPCC has issued two separate statements during the past six weeks that directly contradict IPCC Chairman Raj Pachauri on IPCC rules and procedures.

In another new IPCC development, Laframboise reports that IPCC lead author Andrew Weaver has dropped all pretense of political and scientific objectivity and is now running for political office in Canada representing the Green Party.

Laframboise remains undeterred, publishing regular updates of IPCC misconduct on her Web site, No Frakking Consensus.

LEAKED IPCC DOCUMENT SUGGESTS ENHANCED SOLAR FORCING

IPCC Expert Reviewer Alec Rawls leaked the Second Order Draft of IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report. The leaked document shows IPCC leaders are stumped by solar forcing appearing to be more powerful than what can be attributed to Total Solar Irradiance alone. The solar forcing question will likely be a major topic of debate as IPCC attempts to downplay solar influence despite the scientific evidence. Rawls explains his reasons for leaking the document and provides links to the IPCC Second Order Draft on meteorologist Anthony Watt’s Web site, Watts Up With That?

NOAA DATA SHOW NO LINK BETWEEN WARMING, DROUGHT

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data show no link between global warming and drought in the United States, according to data presented by C3 Headlines. Despite all the media hype about U.S. drought this year and its alleged ties to global warming, NOAA data show U.S. droughts were more severe in the 1930s and 1950s and there is no long-term trend in U.S. drought frequency or severity.

STUDY: SEA LEVEL IS BARELY RISING

Tidal gauges and raw data from satellite instruments show global sea level rose very little if at all during recent decades, sea level scientist Nils-Axel Morner reports in a new study published by the Science and Public Policy Institute. Reports of more rapid sea level rise rely on suspect alterations of the raw data, Morner reports. According to Morner, global sea level is currently rising at pace of 2 to 3 inches per century, at most.

U.N. SAYS UNITED STATES OWES CLIMATE REPARATIONS

The United States owes climate reparations to developing nations and the United Nations should set up mechanisms for wealth transfers to facilitate the reparations, according to delegates at the recently concluded Doha U.N. climate conference. The United States and other developed nations should pay reparations, according to the U.N. delegates, because the climate change is harming developing nations and developed nations are most responsible for historical carbon dioxide emissions.

CO2 HELPS PINE TREES FEND OFF BARK BEETLES

While global warming alarmists attempt to blame bark beetle infestations in the western United States on global warming, scientific research shows elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide assists pine trees in fending off the ravenous insects. Reporting in the peer-reviewed Tree Physiology, a team of scientists showed elevated atmospheric CO2 assists pine trees in producing more resin, which in turn thwarts pine beetles.
