Michael Mann Presentation Illustrates Flawed Warming Claims

Climate Change Weekly #55

Climategate central figure Michael Mann gave a talk in Orange County, California last month that perfectly illustrates how global warming alarmists spread myths and misinformation to further their agenda.

Before his presentation, Mann reportedly objected strenuously to skeptical scientists appearing on the same panel with him. His easily debunked presentation indicates why Mann did not want an objective scientist on the panel.

The final slide in Mann’s PowerPoint presentation exemplified his over-the-top alarmism. The slide showed a picture of his daughter, a picture of a polar bear sitting on a strikingly small iceberg, and a number of assertions about global warming. According to Mann’s slide, our children and grandchildren “may come of age in a time where:”

“Polar bears … will be the stuff of myth”

“There will be no Great Barrier Reef to explore”

“Giraffes and elephants will no longer loom in the foreground of the majestic snows of Mt. Kilimanjaro”

“Great coastal cities such as Amsterdam, Venice, and New Orleans will join the lost city of Pompeii. …”

Correct me if I am wrong, but unlike Pompeii there are no imminently erupting volcanoes in the vicinity of Amsterdam, Venice, or New Orleans. And even if such volcanoes were to miraculously appear and then erupt during the next 40 or so years, I don’t think global warming would be to blame.

Mann’s other assertions are just as easily debunked. Read more in my column at Forbes.com.

WILDFIRES BELOW AVERAGE, MEDIA HYPE SETS RECORD

Global warming alarmists and their media allies are blaming global warming for Western wildfires this year, reporting on the story as if wildfires never occurred before. Lost in all the hype is the fact that the total number of acres burned in the United States this year is below the 10-year average to this date. Apparently, global warming merely causes record media bias or media incompetence.

WATTS SCHOOLS ALARMIST ‘DREAM TEAM’

Meteorologist Anthony Watts has posted a forceful rebuttal to four global warming alarmists attributing Colorado wildfires to global warming. The alarmist “Dream Team” released a “What Global Warming Really Looks Like” presentation addressing the Colorado wildfires among other alleged global warming impacts, but Watts presents factual data soundly refuting the alarmists’ over-the-top assertions.

RECORD COOL TEMPERATURES SET IN FLORIDA

You may not hear about it on the national news or the alarmist blogosphere, but Florida is experiencing record low temperatures as we close out the month of June. Temperatures reached 64 degrees in Orlando and Daytona, shattering previous low temperatures by two and three degrees, respectively. Meteorologist Ryan Maue expects the unusually cool temperatures to last through the weekend.

SWEDEN SUFFERS ONE OF COLDEST JUNES ON RECORD

Sweden is suffering one of its coldest Junes on record, proving the point that the Earth always has some places that are warmer than normal and other places that are colder than normal. We expect the U.S. news media will heavily report the abnormally cold temperatures in Sweden, now that we have called it to their attention here.

WINDSTORM DAMAGE AT ALL-TIME LOW IN NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands is currently experiencing its lowest amount of windstorm damage in at least the past 101 years, according to a newly published study in the peer-reviewed Climatic Change. The record low windstorm damage is caused “primarily by lowered rates of occurrence of damaging storms,” the study finds.
