Nobody Under Drinking Age Has Ever Seen a Category 5 Hurricane

This weekend marked the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, the last Category 5 hurricane to strike the United States. As science writer Steven Goddard points out, that means no child alive today has ever experienced a Category 5 hurricane in this country, either personally or through real-time news accounts.

The long-running lack of Category 5 hurricanes stands out in stark contrast to Al Gore’s false claims that global warming is making hurricanes so much stronger that scientists are creating a new class of Category 6 hurricanes.

The National Hurricane Center contradicted Gore’s frequently made claims that hurricane experts are adding a Category 6 hurricane designation in response to more severe hurricanes.

“No, we’re not pursuing any such change,” National Hurricane Center director of public affairs Chris Vaccaro told the Washington Post.
