Only 43 percent of likely voters say global warming is caused by humans, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey. The findings undermine global warming activists’ claims that skeptics are outside the realm of public opinion and elected officials should enact costly global warming programs.
According to an August Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 likely voters, 43 percent say global warming is caused by humans, 41 percent say global warming is caused by planetary trends, and 6 percent say global warming is caused by other reasons. The percentage of people blaming humans for global warming is down from 48 percent a year ago.
Only 35 percent of likely voters consider global warming a very serious issue, according to Rasmussen. This is consistent with other poll results, such as the Pew Research Center reporting in April 2013 Americans rank global warming dead last among 18 surveyed political priorities. Pew reported Americans rank such mundane issues as “dealing with global trade” and “improving infrastructure” as higher priorities than “dealing with global warming.”
