Polls: Americans Reject Global Warming, Carbon Tax

Climate Change Weekly #102

Global warming typically ranks dead last when the Pew Research Center asks voters to rank the “top priorities for the president and Congress” each year. Yet The New York Times and other major media strain to keep the global warming movement alive by carefully ignoring global warming “skeptics” and giving undeserved coverage to a small minority of liberal Republicans who call for carbon dioxide restrictions.

An April 2013 Gallup poll found only 34 percent of Americans believe global warming will pose a serious threat in their lifetimes. An April 2013 Rasmussen poll found Americans by a two-to-one margin believe finding new energy sources is more important than fighting global warming. Earlier this month, a Rasmussen poll found Americans by a nearly three-to-one margin say creating jobs is more important than addressing global warming.

Nevertheless, The New York Times on August 1 found space on its op-ed page for an essay written by four former Republican EPA administrators calling for even more stringent – and costly – carbon dioxide restrictions than those proposed by President Barack Obama earlier this summer. These elderly statesmen (average age 72.5) were out of step with their party when they served in office and are definitely out in the cold today.

There are many good reasons why most Americans and nearly all Republicans reject costly new restrictions on carbon dioxide. I list some of these reasons, and explain how proposed carbon dioxide restrictions punish the economy while providing little or no net environmental benefit, at Forbes.com. A few out-of-touch Republican environmental bureaucrats may seek to further restrict carbon dioxide emissions, but Republicans and the American public say, “No thank you!”

‘RESPECTED’ SCIENTISTS SEEK TO SUPPRESS SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

Three “respected senior scientists” urged a colleague of Georgia Tech climate professor Judith Curry not to publish scientific findings because the findings would support skeptics of a global warming crisis. The revelation, which Curry reported on her climate science Web site, reveals global warming alarmists remain unashamed by the Climategate scandal and continue engaging in deception, deceit, and anti-science as a means to keep their fictitious global warming crisis alive.

MANN CALLS NPR ‘PATHETIC’ FOR STORY ON CLIMATE UNCERTAINTY

Global warming activist and Climategate central figure Michael Mann tweeted that National Public Radio engaged in “pathetic” reporting for airing a report on how climate scientists like Georgia Tech climate science professor Judith Curry see flaws in alarmist global warming reports and predictions. Curry has generally supported the narrative of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, but she also warns against global warming alarmists embellishing their claims and distorting the science.

GORE COMPARES SKEPTICS TO RACISTS, HOMOPHOBES, APARTHEID SUPPORTERS

Global warming activist Al Gore likened people who are skeptical of his alarmist global warming claims to racists, homophobes, slavery supporters, and apartheid supporters. Gore’s hateful comments appeared Wednesday in an article by Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein. “A few months ago, I saw an article about two gay men standing in line for pizza and some homophobe made an ugly comment about them holding hands and everyone else in line told them to shut up,” Gore said in one of his comparisons with global warming skeptics.

NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER CALLS B.S. ON GORE’S ‘CATEGORY 6’ CLAIMS

The National Hurricane Center contradicted Gore’s frequently made claims that hurricane experts are adding a Category 6 hurricane designation in response to more severe hurricanes. “No, we’re not pursuing any such change,” National Hurricane Center director of public affairs Chris Vaccaro told the Washington Post.
