Renewable Energy Advocates Tell Half the Story

Published September 26, 2007

In a September 25 press release titled “Arctic Ice Melting Faster Than Expected,” a front group called SmartPower reported that Arctic sea ice is receding and asked, “How many of these dire predictions can we afford to ignore? This report is yet another in a series of scientifically factual studies that once again serve as an important call to action,” the group stated.

SmartPower is a front group funded by leftwing advocates of renewable power, including the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Pew Charitable Trusts.

What the press release conveniently failed to mention is that while Northern Hemisphere Arctic sea ice is currently receding (though not as much as it receded in the 1930s and 1940s), Southern Hemisphere Antarctic sea ice has expanded to record levels, and is continuing to expand.

So, does common sense tell us there is proof, or even strong evidence, of planetary warming when the sea ice at one pole is receding and the sea ice at the other pole is growing to record levels? Only in the looking-glass world of global warming alarmists who have public relations money burning holes in their pockets.
