A suspected burglar who led New Jersey police on a high-speed car chase through six cities and was ultimately shot by police is suing Bergen County for $17 million.

The suspect was one of two men apprehended by police after a botched burglary. The car chase took place in part on residential streets, as the alleged crooks’ SUV swerved repeatedly, narrowly avoiding crashes. After the SUV was stopped when another car hit it, police chased the suspect and shot one of them. The man is now claiming he was trying to surrender when police shot him.
