The Criminal Case Against Peter Gleick

Published February 11, 2013

On February 14, 2012 – one year ago – Fakegate began. Like Climategate, it was a scandal revealing the dishonesty and desperation of those who claim man-made global warming (alias “climate change”) is a crisis. Fakegate involved criminal activity, repeated lying, and outright theft by a high-ranking scientist in the global warming movement. How the mainstream media covered the incident spoke volumes about how liberal bias pervades media today.

On Thursday, February 14, 2013, The Heartland Institute is releasing  a 57-page report produced by its legal counsel, Jones Day, presented to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois in support of criminal prosecution in the matter. Heartland asked that Peter Gleick, the scientist who confessed to identity theft, theft of confidential corporate documents, and lying to the press and his allies about the source of the documents he gave them, be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  So far, the U.S. Attorney has declined to prosecute Gleick.

We ask everyone who has participated in this important scientific and policy debate to review the presentation and decide for themselves whether Peter Gleick should be tried for his crimes. We ask the reporters and activists who were fooled by Gleick’s lies and who used Fakegate to attack The Heartland Institute, rather than come to our defense as the victim of a serious crime, to consider revisiting their decisions. And we urge everyone to “look under the hood” at the real science behind the global warming scare and recognize that man-made global warming is not a crisis.
