Three Important Earth Day Facts

Happy Earth Day! Every Earth Day environmental activists and their media allies present myriad claims that humans are destroying the environment. The only cure, they argue, is to take money and power away from private individuals and hand it over to government. Despite their doom-and-gloom environmental claims, environmental quality is in long-term steady improvement. This truly is a happy Earth Day. Here are three key facts to keep in mind:

•    Our air is remarkably cleaner than just a few decades ago. U.S. air emissions have declined by approximately 70 percent since 1980, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

•    Population growth is not ravaging our environment. U.S. population increased by approximately 40 percent since 1980, even while making the air emissions progress noted above.

•    U.S. carbon dioxide emissions have declined by approximately 7 percent this century. If rising carbon dioxide emissions truly cause catastrophic global warming, the United States is certainly doing its fair share to reduce emissions.
