County Chairman Sees Chance to ‘Wipe the Slate Clean’

The Sandy Springs revolt has spawned other city movements in Fulton County. County Chairman Karen Handel said two other unincorporated areas in North Fulton County are conducting incorporation studies.

The county is also studying itself. Handel has convened a group of university economists and government policy experts to benchmark service delivery models and political structures in hopes of making Fulton County more responsive to residents and more efficient.

“My hope is, and my thought process is, we probably need to have a statewide city-county commission,” she said. “I don’t think it makes good policy, and it’s certainly not good for taxpayers, to do things haphazardly. This is a rare opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start over to do things better for the citizens.”
