NIPCC Releases Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science

Published September 20, 2013

Climate Change Weekly #104

The Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change released on September 17 Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science. The new report, published by The Heartland Institute and known as CCR-II, includes more than 1,000 pages documenting the evidence that anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions are not causing a global warming crisis. The report contains thousands of citations to the peer-reviewed literature.

Global warming alarmists often misrepresent the peer-reviewed literature, claiming virtually no peer-reviewed studies call the alarmist narrative into question. However, the alarmists can make such a claim only by using a deceptive straw-man argument: that global temperatures have warmed during the past century, such that Earth is no longer in the depths of the extraordinary Little Ice Age. Well heck, everybody knows that. CCR-II documents the mountains of scientific evidence supporting the much more important point that global warming is not a crisis.

More than three dozen scientists wrote and contributed to CCR-II. The scientists themselves came up with the idea for successive issues of Climate Change Reconsidered and asked The Heartland Institute to publish their findings.

The Physical Science volume is only part 1 of the full CCR-II. Climate Change Reconsidered II: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerabilities is set for publication in Spring 2014.

PEER REVIEWED PAPER: 114 OF 117 MODELS PREDICTED TOO MUCH WARMING

All but three of 117 climate models predicted too much warming during the past two decades, a paper in the peer-reviewed Nature Climate Change reports. The models typically predicted twice the amount of warming that occurred in the real world, the paper documented.

NAOMI KLEIN CALLS OUT JOE ROMM FOR AGGRESSIVE IGNORANCE

Environmental activist Naomi Klein published an open letter this week eviscerating Center for American Progress front man Joe Romm for making ignorant statements and irresponsibly making hatchet-job attacks on people with differing points of view. Klein called out Romm for making assertions before even examining the evidence. Wrote Klein, “To assume you know what evidence is in the book and can therefore dismiss it outright is a new twist on old-school arrogance. Impressive.” Klein also called out groups like Romm’s Center for American Progress for selling out to corporate welfare seekers and doing more climate harm than good.

ALARMISTS DENY THEIR OWN ARCTIC SEA ICE PREDICTIONS

Global warming alarmists are denying and running away from their own Arctic sea ice predictions, now telling us they predicted the record 60 percent growth in August 2013 Arctic sea ice compared to August 2012. Writing in the UK Guardian, alarmists John Abraham and Dana Nuccitelli claim global warming alarmists predicted this year’s record growth in Arctic sea ice.

And all those past claims of doom-and-gloom and completely disappearing Arctic sea ice? They were apparently just figments of our collective imagination. The New York Times‘ 2012 story about the Arctic Ocean being ice-free by 2020? Never happened. The UK Guardian‘s 2012 story about the Arctic Ocean being ice-free by 2016? Never happened, either. The Associated Press 2007 story about the Arctic Ocean being ice-free by 2012? Nope, just a figment of our collective imagination. And the New Scientist‘s 2007 story about the Arctic Ocean being ice-free by 2008? Don’t know what you’re talkin’ about.

2013 TIES RECORD FOR LATEST FIRST HURRICANE OF SEASON

Hurricane Humberto formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean on September 11, tying the all-time record for the latest first hurricane of the season. Humberto struggled to reach and remain a Category 1 hurricane with winds barely reaching 75 miles per hour on September 11. By the time Humberto formed, more than half the 2013 hurricane season had already come and gone.

LESS THAN HALF THE VOTING U.S. POPULATION BLAMES HUMANS FOR GLOBAL WARMING

Only 43 percent of likely voters say global warming is caused by humans, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey. The findings undermine global warming activists’ claims that skeptics are outside the realm of public opinion and elected officials should enact costly global warming programs. The percentage of people blaming humans for global warming is down from 48 percent a year ago.

LAFRAMBOISE SEQUEL EXPOSES IPCC BIAS, INCOMPETENCE

Science journalist Donna Laframboise published a book this week exposing rampant bias and incompetence at the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Laframboise’s new book, Into the Dustbin: Rajenda Pachauri, the Climate Report & the Nobel Peace Prize, follows her successful and influential first book, The Delinquent Teenager Who Was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert.
