Climate Change Weekly #50
Global warming alarmists are proving once again that they fear public discussion and debate over global warming issues.
The Heartland Institute invited more than 50 warmists to attend and speak at the Seventh International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-7), to be held Monday through Wednesday in Chicago, yet none has accepted the invitation.
Had warmists accepted the invitations to speak at the conference, they would have comprised a large majority of the speakers. Even given the opportunity to speak with such an advantage, warmists showed once again that they fear public dialogue and debate with scientists skeptical of a global warming crisis.
All of the invitations to the 50-plus warmists were extended well before The Heartland Institute’s controversial global warming billboard was displayed in Chicago on May 4. All of the warmists who explicitly declined to participate provided notice of their decision prior to May 4.
The 50-plus warmists who declined invitations to participate in this year’s ICCC join dozens of warmists who have declined to participate in prior ICCCs.
Global warming alarmists often say they welcome skeptical scientific discussion and debate, but their actions speak louder than their words.

NO INCREASE IN SEA-LEVEL RISE
Sea-level rise continues to be modest, with twenty-first century sea-level rise occurring no more rapidly than that of the twentieth century. Predictions by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and other alarmists that sea-level rise will be dramatic this century are being proven wrong by real world data.

MAJOR HURRICANE DROUGHT SETS RECORD
It has now been more than six years since a major hurricane struck the United States, the longest time period in recorded U.S. history without an intense hurricane strike. No major hurricane has struck the United States since Al Gore blamed global warming for major hurricanes in his 2006 movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

POLAR SEA ICE REMAINS AT LONG-TERM AVERAGE
Extensive Southern Hemisphere sea ice is combining with near-normal Northern Hemisphere sea ice to keep polar ice cap extent at or above the long-term average. It has been more than a month since polar ice cap extent fell below the long-term average.

NO SIGN OF ‘MISSING HEAT’ IN DEEP OCEANS
A new paper in the peer-reviewed Geophysical Research Letters shows minimal warming of the oceans, and most of the warming occurring near the surface rather than in deeper water. The results contradict assertions by global warming alarmists that global temperatures have warmed so little this century because the heat is being absorbed deep in the oceans.
