Hillary Clinton needs a new travel agent. Somehow, on her way to Iowa, Kansas, Florida, and the Bronx Zoo, Hillary’s travel agent sent her on a wild goose chase to Greenland, of all places.
Our Secretary of State said she was on a mission to see for herself the impacts of global warming. That being the case, she should have started her trip in Iowa, in the heart of the World’s Breadbasket. Why Iowa? Because as the world has warmed, crops have responded with ever-improving yields. Nearly every year, important crops set yield-per-acre records in the United States and elsewhere. This is consistent with the basic science that carbon dioxide is aerial fertilizer. It is also consistent with longer growing seasons and the improvement in soil moisture that accompanied warmer temperatures. Want to see for yourself the impacts of global warming, Secretary Clinton? Next, and while she was in Iowa, Hillary should have visited nearby Kansas. Why Kansas? Because Kansas is in the heart of Tornado Alley. As National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) records show, strong tornadoes have become rarer as global temperatures have warmed. This is consistent with the basic science that as winter cold masses become more moderate, their springtime clashes with warm, moist air masses become less severe. Heading east, Clinton should have stopped in Florida and other states along the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Why here? Because hurricanes have become less frequent as global temperatures have warmed. As hurricane expert Ryan Maue writes in the peer-reviewed Geophysical Research Letters, “In the pentad since 2006, Northern Hemisphere and global tropical cyclone ACE has decreased dramatically to the lowest levels since the late 1970s. Additionally, the frequency of tropical cyclones has reached a historical low.” This is consistent with the basic science that warmer temperatures increase upper atmosphere wind shear, which inhibits hurricane formation. Global warming has given Florida and the nation’s hurricane-prone states a welcome reprieve from hurricanes and tropical storms.
As she toured the Atlantic Coast, Ms. Clinton should have paid a visit to the Bronx Zoo. Why the Bronx Zoo? Because plants and animals are expanding their ranges poleward as the planet warms, gaining more range poleward than they are losing equatorially (see here, for example). Despite alarmist predictions to the contrary, not a single species has been lost to habitat reduction during the post-Ice Age warming of the Earth (see Willis Eschenbach’s talk).
As far as Greenland goes, Secretary Clinton is clearly on a wild goose chase. The much-ballyhooed loss of polar ice caps is simply not occurring.As shown by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellites, there has been little if any reduction in the polar ice caps since the satellites were first launched in 1979 (which was a convenient year for global warming alarmists, coming at the culmination of a 30-year global cooling trend). Indeed, whole Viking villages, built in Greenland 1,000 years ago during the Medieval Warm Period, remain buried under hundreds of feet of snow and ice.
